TEDCO’s inaugural “Working Together” event proved incredibly successful. Businesses from across the region welcomed the opportunity to work more closely together and warmly received our new programme, Start & Grow.
On Wednesday, we welcomed 52 representatives from businesses to discuss the work we do across the region in supporting start up and pre-start up enterprises.
The event represented an opportunity for us to introduce Start & Grow to those businesses unfamiliar with the new three-year scheme funded by the Regional Growth Funds.
For those not previously aware of Start & Grow, the programme is designed to deliver both pre and post start support for entrepreneurs launching businesses with aspirations for growth. Delivered nationwide by Cavendish Consortium members, Start & Grow aims to support increased turnover, profitability, job creation and business expansion.
The “Working Together” event was also an opportunity for existing businesses in the region to come together and build mutually beneficial ties with the team here at TEDCO.
“An average of 4 businesses set up every week in the region with our help, so we come into contact with a huge variety of enterprises and entrepreneurs at TEDCO, ” says CEO, Carole White.
“Every start up has different goals and different needs, working to its own unique business model. But all enterprises require support from the companies around them in one way or another – be it an accountant, solicitor, design agency or printers.
“It is those relationships that we are constantly looking to cultivate, so that we might refer our clients to suppliers or contractors we know represent quality, value for money and a safe pair of hands. In this way, we hope to develop TEDCO Partnerships that add value to both our clients and the local economy.”
The event included two speakers from businesses in the local community, Craig Murray from Ice Print and Design and Paul Whiting of Custom Blasting.
Ice Print and Design has been a partner with TEDCO for some time, and a fantastic example of a business we are happy to refer start up businesses to.
Craig says: “The referrals I have received via TEDCO have been hugely beneficial to my business, ensuring a constant stream of work throughout the year and supporting my own business development work.
“In return I’ve been more than happy to contribute my expertise through free mentoring sessions and ad hoc support whenever it has been required of me. By forging these kinds of links, I can come into contact with businesses that may utilize our services for years to come.”
Paul Whiting from Custom Blasting offered us a different insight into TEDCO Partnerships, as one of the first businesses to benefit from the new Start & Grow programme. He told us that being directed towards trusted partners that TEDCO vouch for is invaluable to a new business and instills confidence in them during those challenging early months of trading.
“When the advisers at TEDCO recommend a business, you know it is a supplier you can trust. There is a great deal of uncertainty when starting a new business, and getting honest, reliable referrals is just one less thing to worry about – not to mention saving time comparing quotes and doing due diligence on potential suppliers and contractors.”
Not only were we delighted with the attendance at ‘Working Together’; we were also thrilled to find so many businesses keen to explore the opportunities of working more closely with TEDCO. With that in mind we look forward to sharing further plans for collaboration with attendees over the coming weeks.
And for those businesses who didn’t attend but would like the opportunity to find out more about TEDCO Partnerships, we are currently planning further events in the Tees Valley.
