ENTERPRISE IN NORTH TYNESIDE TAKES TO A GLOBAL STAGE

Published on: Monday 14 November 2011

As entrepreneurs around the world join together to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week and recognise their valuable contribution to global economies, residents in North Tyneside are being urged to take their first steps towards setting up in business.

The Business Factory, North Tyneside Council’s start-up support agency which is helping to energise and stimulate enterprise within the borough, will be hosting a number of events throughout the week (November 14- November 20) aimed at helping individuals thinking of starting their own business.

From party plan workshops, providing support and advice for people thinking of becoming self-employed consultants in this fast growing industry, to chat show style interviews with some of North Tyneside’s burgeoning entrepreneurs who have recently taken the plunge and set up on their own, the week will be jammed packed with events designed to celebrate and promote enterprise.

The week will culminate with an informal one to one advice day for anyone considering starting their own business.  Whether you have never considered running your own business, know you would like to but don’t really have a strong idea or maybe have an idea and just need some practical help and advice to turn your plan in to a reality, there will be a number of experienced advisors on hand to talk you through your individual needs.  Hosted at The Village Hotel, those who attend will also be encouraged to get fit for business with a free day pass to use the hotel’s leisure and fitness facilities.

Alex Wiley, marketing manager at TEDCO, the enterprise agency which delivers The Business Factory on behalf of North Tyneside Council and part of the team responsible for organising Global Entrepreneurship activities said:  "Everyday people talk about making a change in their life and consider starting a business.  The idea of Global Entrepreneurship Week is to provide such people with practical support but also to connect them with people who have already done it who can share their own experiences and encourage would be entrepreneurs to follow them in taking the plunge.

"David Cameron has called on the country’s doers and grafters to stimulate the economy; Global Entrepreneurship Week does just that by making more people develop their enterprise skills, confidence and ambitions which is exactly what The Business Factory is doing here on North Tyneside.”

North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor, Mrs Linda Arkley said: "Global Entrepreneurship Week complements the on-going activities of The Business Factory which was set up to encourage individuals from the borough to consider self-employment as a viable option and help those already going down this route to progress their business further.

"It has already helped more than 270 businesses to set up across North Tyneside and we hope that this week long event which helps to promote the merits of enterprise both across the UK and worldwide will encourage even more residents to find out how The Business Factory can help them.”

Global Entrepreneurship Week, which began life as Enterprise Week in the UK in 2004 is now celebrated across 115 countries with more than 37,000 different activities and events all designed to encourage and support enterprise at various levels. Across North Tyneside events include:
