NORTH EAST BUSINESSES FLOURISH IN INCUBATION
Published on: Tuesday 7 December 2010
Wednesday 8th December 2010 is the day for business incubation environments around the world to celebrate the impact and benefits an incubator can provide. Global Business Incubation day is dedicated to promoting and demonstrating to small businesses, the general public and policy makers, the opportunities for business development in supportive managed work spaces.
North East enterprise agency TEDCO manages two award winning business incubators based in Berwick and South Tyneside. Berwick WorkSpace and The Quadrus Centre will join more than seventeen thousand business incubation centres in over fifty-five countries on Global Business Incubation day to promote this successful method of business development.
Champions of business incubation include Performance Horizon Group, a ground breaking online performance marketing technology provider based in The Quadrus Centre in Boldon, South Tyneside.
A relatively new business, Performance Horizon Group began trading this year launching two main products: Performance Mash, a new partner management system and Leadsbox, a lead generation network enabler and processing service which will offer digital agencies and merchants the potential to change their online activity allowing them to accurately measure their marketing and associated spend.
Performance Horizon Group co-founders Malcolm Cowley and Paul Fellows are no strangers to high growth businesses being part of the team to found ‘buy.at’ – a global affiliate marketing network which went on to be sold to AOL in 2008 for $125m.
Chief Operating Officer Paul Fellows said: "We have a first class team in place to launch the group, and we have solid plans in place to expand the company rapidly over the next year of trading. We already have members of the team in London, Europe and in the USA and we see the products catching the attention of companies across the rest of Europe and then other territories very quickly. The Quadrus Centre really reflects our ambitions and company as a whole.”
Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Cowley said: "The base for the business is very important, especially as we invite our clients and partners to the site. The Quadrus Centre has an excellent reputation, the offices are top of the range and look great. The team here are extremely supportive and access to the facilities and meeting rooms means all of the little things are taken care of so we can focus on developing our business.”
Opened in 2008, Berwick WorkSpace is the newest addition to TEDCO incubator portfolio and has proven to be equally as successful as The Quadrus Centre. It has built a solid reputation for professional business support in Northumberland. Berwick’s only recruitment firm ‘Reiver Recruitment’ can vouch for this.
Within ten months of moving into Berwick WorkSpace, Reiver Recruitment has moved into a larger office in the incubator to accommodate the three members of staff that have been taken on thanks to increased business.
Company Director Eileen Pheasant who specialises in providing permanent and temporary staff for the office, construction and industrial sectors Said of the expansion: "Despite the gloom and doom in the media, recruitment in Northumberland and the Borders continues to be strong. Many people thought that the middle of a recession was not the right time to open a new business however we have seen an unprecedented demand for our services and we now need more space.”
Reiver Recruitment chose Berwick WorkSpace because of its town centre location, award winning office space and state of the art communications facilities.
The company’s new office will increase the space available for both staff and clients. Eileen explains, "We are delighted with the new office space. The very modern look and facilities will continue to build on our outstanding reputation for providing a tailored recruitment service to local businesses.”
Andrew Martin, Centre Manager at Berwick WorkSpace, is delighted with that one of the centre’s newest companies are already undergoing expansion: "We are always very pleased to see our businesses grow and develop. Reiver Recruitment doing so well, it is a testimony that offering excellent incubation services and bespoke support will allow an ambitious business to do well even in tough times. Reiver Recruitment offer a very important service and we are glad that we have been able to offer them space to expand, which has allowed them to grow and stay in the heart of Berwick, as the right location is important to every business .”
