Award Winning Chief Executive - Doug Scott
The Chief Executive of North East based Enterprise Agency, TEDCO, has been honoured by The Queen.

Doug Scott, chief executive of TEDCO Ltd, has been honoured by the Queen today with the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise Lifetime Achievement Award.

Only one Lifetime Achievement Award is granted per year so it is a tremendous achievement and reflection on Doug’s character and the work he has done in the region.

Doug, who has worked to promote enterprise at both local and national levels, is deputy chairman of the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies and serves on the board of UK Business Incubation.
He is receiving the honour for his efforts to promote enterprise in economically disadvantaged areas, for developing an award winning community enterprise coaching model and actively encouraging enterprise in education projects in schools.

Doug has formed partnerships to tackle the barrier between enterprise development and economic inactivity resulting from poverty and remains dedicated to inspiring aspiration amongst those who lack the confidence to start their own business.

He said "We keep trying to do the right things by the clients, what people mostly want is to see somebody – preferably for free”

Since Doug’s appointment as Chief Executive in 1997, TEDCO has expanded dramatically, boasting three business centres in South Tyneside and one in Northumberland, which provide a base for more than one hundred and fifty small to medium sized businesses.

With over sixty employees, it’s own national news e-letter; ‘EnterpriseUpfront’ and new base in North Tyneside - which has extended and galvanized the free enterprise coaching support TEDCO offers across the region, TEDCO is at the forefront of modern business support under Doug’s direction.

Nominated by his colleagues at TEDCO, The Queens Award is a welcome recognition of Doug’s achievements;

He said: "I didn’t know anything about it. I understand it’s a process by nomination so I was gratified my peers nominated me. It will provide us with new contacts and new opportunities.”

Winners of the Queen’s Awards will receive a royal visit for the presentation of a crystal bowl and will be invited to a special reception at Buckingham Palace in July.
