WorkSpace Receives National Recognition
Less than six months after opening Berwick WorkSpace,the new incubation centre for businesses in Berwick, the management organisation, The Tyneside Economic Development Company Ltd (TEDCO), has received national recognition for its approach to attracting enterprise.
In recognition for its approach to managing and marketing, Berwick WorkSpace was runner up in the Marketing Innovation Award category in the annual National Federation of Enterprise Agencies (NFEA) awards. The award recognises the approach to marketing the WorkSpace centre which it describes as a model approach to increasing awareness and creating interest.
Berwick WorkSpace’s main purpose is to generate wealth for the local economy, improve business development and help small to medium sized companies grow. Their aim is to attract aspirational business to Berwick upon Tweed and to do this TEDCO have used traditional and innovative marketing methods. TEDCO have engaged the local community, proactively established business partnerships and worked closely with the local media. It has been an effective high profile approach which has resulted in the centre having already exceeded its initial occupancy and meeting room targets.
George Derbyshire, NFEA Chief Executive and Chair of the 2008 National Enterprise Awards judging panel, said after the presentation: "The award judges were very impressed with TEDCO'S award application. “It was a comprehensive and detailed campaign, utilising targeted events and promotion, press engagement and community involvement. This was all to promote a brand new workspace in Berwick - a location which was new to TEDCO and where they were little known but which delivered tangible results. Classic marketing: well worthy of recognition."
The ‘Berwick WorkSpace’ incubation centre offers a modern bespoke business environment for growing businesses. Each organisation benefits from renting office space, but also gain valuable on site support from the TEDCO management team.

Berwick WorkSpace’ is situated adjacent to Berwick upon Tweed’s Library. It is a distinctive and modern building, which uses local and natural materials where possible. Internally the building offers businesses the latest design, technology and facilities. In addition, it will open up pedestrian access between Berwick’s main streets – Marygate, Walkergate and the Library.
