Enterprising WorkSpace to Open
Further details of an eagerly awaited flagship business centre in Berwick have been announced. The joint venture between Northumberland County Council and Berwick upon Tweed Borough Council is an exciting new initiative which offers businesses in the Berwick area a unique opportunity to experience hand in hand business support from the centre management whilst developing their companies.
‘Berwick WorkSpace', with 35 individual offices and conference facilities, will be managed by The Tyneside Economic Development Company Ltd (TEDCO), who already manage three other very successful centre's in the North East. Work for ‘Berwick WorkSpace’ is very much well underway with the opening of the building scheduled for May.
TEDCO have already been inundated with many diverse enquiries from local businesses ahead of a pre launch event in April. This event will mark the milestone when firm enquiries can be taken, as office rental prices will be finalised and part of the Centre open for viewing. Further detailed information about ‘Berwick WorkSpace’ will also be available from one of TEDCO’s Management Team at the ‘Berwick’s Buzzing Event’ being held in the Berwick upon Tweed Library on the Tuesday 4th March.
The ‘Berwick WorkSpace’ incubation centre will offer a bespoke State-of-the-Art business environment for growing businesses. Each organisation will not only benefit from renting bespoke office space, but also gain valuable on site support from the TEDCO management team. Commenting on the development Deborah Evans, TEDCO Senior Centre Manger said:
“This is one of the most exciting business developments for SME’s in Northumberland and we are delighted to be involved in the project. Berwick WorkSpace is all about creating a centre of excellence for enterprise. Working with Berwick Council and Northumberland County Council, one of our key objectives is to establish Berwick's business identity and to show that the town has a diverse range of skills and enterprises to offer.”
‘Berwick WorkSpace’ is funded by One North East, Northumberland Strategic Partnership, the European Regional Development Fund and Berwick and Northumberland Councils.
John Hamilton, Economic Development Officer for Northumberland County Council and Workspace Project Director, gives us the background to the project:
“This is a key part of our strategy to strengthen the economy of Berwick and the Eastern Borders by assisting the growth of businesses, from both within and outwith the Berwick area. We hope the provision of this flagship building will also encourage further investment within the town centre. The designers have met the challenge of providing appropriate work and conference space which respects its key location in the centre of the historic town. They have encouraged the use of local building materials and have respected the style and form of traditional buildings whilst applying them in an innovative way.”
“Finally I would just like to say how delighted we are to secure TEDCO as our managers - an organisation with a proven and nationally recognised track record in new business development"
‘Berwick WorkSpace’ is situated adjacent to Berwick upon Tweed’s Library. It is a distinctive and modern building, which uses local and natural materials where possible. Internally the building offers businesses the latest design, technology and state of the art facilities. In addition, it will open up pedestrian access between Berwick’s main streets – Marygate, Walkergate and the Library.
