Centre Success for TEDCO

A local Enterprise Agency has experienced its most successful January on record at its three South Tyneside business centres.

Following on from a very buoyant 2006, a record number of new and growing businesses are currently located within the three TEDCO (The Tyneside Economic Development Company Ltd) business centres.

All three of the popular centres are near to capacity for the first time in TEDCO’s history, which provides a positive insight into the growing local business community.

TEDCO opened its first centre in the autumn of 1984 at the former Plessey plant on Eldon Street in South Shields. Initially businesses worked side by side in an open plan environment which despite a lack of privacy fostered camaraderie and team spirit that has become central to all that TEDCO stands for today.

In September 1994 the Plessey plant was replaced with a new home, the TEDCO Business Centre in Jarrow. The success of the centre on Jarrow’s Viking Business Park soon led to plans for a second centre and in 2000 TEDCO Business Works opened in South Shields.

Spurred on by the their success, TEDCO and South Tyneside Council unveiled plans for the third South Tyneside centre, The Quadrus Centre, which opened in May 2005.

Hilary Woolard, Manager of the TEDCO Business Centre in Jarrow said “We have very strong relationships with all of our licencees and they have helped our business centres go from strength to strength. A lot of the success of TEDCO’s premises has arisen through networking of existing businesses which has encouraged new businesses to show an interest in occupying our premises.”

“Prices start from as little as £45 per week for an office unit and your licence fees are paid monthly, with only one month’s notice required if you need to move on. Our terms are flexible so that businesses can concentrate on what they do best, we’ll take care of the rest.”

Much of the popularity of TEDCO’s centres is down to the customer service at each centre.
