Media Programme
Project Overview
The Enterprise Media Programme provided Yr10 students with a year-long tailored, personalised learning experience. Each phase of the programme was designed with the ethos to encourage students to develop an enterprising mind-set in all aspects of daily life and encourage the development of skills such as participation, responsibility and employability through the use of ICT. Each session provided students with a variety of learning styles to increase awareness of creativity and innovation in class work.
Working along side identified school staff members and outside partners in the form of a working group, Enterprise in Education managed the planning, development and co-ordination of an enterprising ICT programme to increase participation and retension in Yr10. The programme provided stimulating activities for young people at risk of not meeting their potential or national curriculum objectives and provided opportunities for wider dissemination throughout the school of work which produced results that raised participants self confidence and self esteem.
“It was tremendous to be able to work with TEDCO to design a course for young people which had relevance, excitement and was different. TEDCO has enabled us to individualise the curriculum to meet student need. But most importantly, the impact on the students' self esteem and confidence has been incredible.”

Identified Needs
The school working group decided that Enterprise would be used, in this case, to re-engage a group of students in learning and to increase participation in post 16. The programme of activity covered national curriculum elements of ICT which focuses on developing ICT skills of young people who are at risk of not meeting National Curriculum outcomes of Key Stage 4, and gives the young people involved the opportunity to work along side an ICT professional allowing them to gain an insight into training and development needs. This work based project, will raise the aspirations, self-confidence and self-esteem of the students, and will provide a programme which encourages group work and enhances communication and interpersonal skills.
Timescale
The outlined timescale for the project was to be 2 whole academic years from September 2004 to May 2006, with each year being split into 3 terms. It was felt that in order to keep up momentum each programme should be short and sharp and should provide students with a visible outcome.
Project Programme
During the working group meetings various possible ICT based programmes were discussed, from these initial ideas 6 areas were chosen for further development, these were: a promotional school DVD and associated marketing materials, transitional comic for the school’s feeder primaries, a radio programme and a personal development programme. Following the personal development a Yr11 programme was designed with the students.
Evaluation Methodology
The students completed a pre and post evaluation and the information gathered was collated and analysed in SPSS (Statisical Package for Social Sciences) and any significant changes are recorded. At the end of the each session pupils, the facilitator and teacher complete an end of session evaluation to allow Enterprise in Education to gather information relating to learning outcomes and analyse general feedback about the delivery of the session. The responses gathered from the evaluation sheets were then put into SPSS and charts created for analysis, each evaluation sheet was carefully examined and an evaluation formulated.
