Enterprise Teaching and Learning Support

Key Stage 4 Flexible Enterprise in Education Programme

Step 1 – Planning your Enterprise programme

We will work with school management, teaching and non teaching staff and partners to tailor enterprise programmes to work across the Key Stage 4 curriculum.

The programme developed will meet enterprise targets in Business and Economic Understanding, Financial Literacy and Enterprise Capability across the curriculum and will also contribute to learning objectives in all subject areas which aim to raise self esteem, aspirations and enhance the subject curriculum.

Step 2 – Promotion of Enterprise culture and ethos

One and two day INSET training for teaching and non teaching staff regarding the concept of Enterprise, innovative Enterprise teaching and learning styles, how to write practical Enterprise Education into lesson plans and schemes of work, enterprise projects which can be undertaken in school, and how to develop effective links with business and industry and the wider learning community. The second day identifies enterprise skills and behaviour, how to identify students learning style preference and the value of the creative classroom.

Step 3 – Enterprise and Creativity

To raise awareness of the concept of Enterprise and Creativity and to enable students to identify personal styles, performances and self review techniques. The programmes use enterprising behaviours and personal development activities to show how enterprising skills and creative thinking can support their own learning needs.

Activities undertaken include – ideas generation, creativity, managing risk, planning, decision-making, team work, thinking skills, learning to learn, time management, development of initiative, confidence, self-esteem, flexibility, perseverance, self determination, communication and presentation skills.

The Enterprise and Creativity day can be delivered in school or at an alternative venue and will aim to enable students to take ownership of their well organised and successful day.

Total student entitlement – 6 hours

Step 4 – Building Enterprise Understanding

An Enterprise Capability programme, examining Enterprise knowledge and understanding, skills, attitudes and qualities, will be put into place across identified subject areas. Lesson planning and classroom support is available to all schools.

Activities undertaken include developing creativity, ideas generation, managing risk, planning, decision-making, team work, thinking skills, learning to learn, time management, development of initiative, confidence, self-esteem, flexibility, perseverance and determination. Personal Finance and associated skills will be included in this programme.

This Enterprise model is flexible – it can be delivered in school, or at an alternative venue, through one hour sessions, or as a half day event.

Partners from business, the voluntary sector or the wider learning community will bring real life relevance in supporting school business activities.

Step 5 – Business and Economic understanding

A programme placed across identified subject areas, observing knowledge and understanding of business functions and organisation, marketing, trade issues, ethics, competition, pricing, efficiency, resource examination, role of business and their responsibilities.

The Business and Economic Understanding model is flexible – our workshops can alternatively be delivered as half or full day events, both in school, or at an alternative venue.

Partners from business, enterprise support agencies, financial institutions and education will bring expertise to the day, to support practical social business or community business or mini business developments.

Total student entitlement – 10 hours

Step 6 – Financial Literacy

One hour workshops to be undertaken on a weekly basis, or half day or whole day workshop programme.

Our workshops cover student budgeting, credit and debt, purchasing a car, taking out a mortgage, pensions, tax, funding to support students through further education and training, careers and salaries, knowledge and understanding of financial services, the global economy, further education and higher education student information on grants and finance.

Information sessions or workshops can also be developed for parents to support post 16 take up.

Total student entitlement – 10 hours

Step 7 – Celebratory event

For the final stage of a school’s KS4 Enterprise programme, it is suggested to hold a celebratory event. Developed with the students to highlight their engagement in their own learning development, the aim of the event is for students to experience personal value in the delivery of a successful celebratory event.
