Warwick CEI Excellence in Enterprise Award

The new award has been designed particularly for schools which have, or are interested in developing, an "enterprise agenda" within their schools. The award focuses upon:

  • Allowing schools to prepare for future inspection of enterprise and work-related learning elements of the curriculum;
  • Encouraging the process of self review by schools;
  • Assessing the quality of the delivery of enterprise education in an individual school;
  • Supporting a rapid response to external requirements for the identification of enterprise activity within the school.

How will this Award work?

The general aim of the material is to allow a school or college to analyse and quantify the quality of its enterprise activity for subsequent submission to CEI in application for an award and kite-mark. In order to gain the kite mark as an 'Excellence in Enterprise Education' organisation, each school will be asked to carry out an assessment of enterprise activity currently under way in the school in several defined areas (such as the planning of enterprise education and the delivery methods used).

CEI wishes to make the process of application for the award as simple as possible and aims to limit the need for paperwork to support the bid for an award. Instead of the building of substantial portfolios of evidence, the focus will be rather upon self-review and self-assessment.
Simple assessment sheets will allow a school to estimate an enterprise 'score' before making the submission. If this indicates a coherent and committed delivery of enterprise education themes, a submission for the award may then be made to CEI.

The submission made to CEI will consist of a summary of the school's position and some reference to available evidence supporting the assessment. In addition, the organisation will be asked to identify one especially successful enterprise activity currently operating in the school and, in the form of a brief case study, describe the level of enterprise learning taking place through this activity. In addition, schools will be encouraged to submit additional relevant material in support of their bids.

In order to formally agree an award there will be a need for some external assessment of a school's progress. This will take the form of a brief external verification visit and the request on that occasion for appropriate items of evidence supporting the submission. A brief meeting with a representative group of pupils will also be requested in order to discuss their school enterprise experiences with them.

Following successful verification, CEI will confirm the award of CEI’s ‘Excellence in Enterprise Education’ kite-mark.

The documentation, which supports this award, will be provided on a CD-Rom. This convenient recording method will allow information to be entered directly by computer and for hard copies to be printed where, for example, there is a need to circulate an action plan section to staff, or where the management team might wish to consider a checklist separately.
